La Notte della Taranta - This is a musical/cultural event that takes place throughout the Salento during the month of August and its conclusion is the last Saturday of the month with a big concert in the village of Melpignano. The so-called "pizzica" is a dance that originated in the ancient rite of healing "tarantate" ( people bitten by tarantulas). According to popular belief, the person fell into a state of shock and this music and dance was a remedie to heal.
The Feastival of the Saint Patron of Lecce, S.Oronzo - Held during the last weekend of August and takes place entirely in the center of Lecce. The festival dates back to the sixteenth century, suspended in 1640, was later restored in 1658, when the legend says that Sant'Oronzo freed the population from plague. On these days the streets of the city are decorated with lights and all downtown becomes a place of entertainment for both locals and tourists who can find many local products, and concerts.
Open Cellars(Cantine Aperte) - This is an event that happens every year throughout Italy during the last Sunday of May. All wineries associated to Movimento Turismo del Vino di Puglia will open their doors to visitorsto taste local wine of Salento.

Calici di Stelle - The Night of San Lorenzo the center of the city of Lecce is filled with stands where local wines can be tasted.
